A fantastic and rare album featuring stars of Gaelic music made from a 1962 recording at the Edinburgh International Festival. Beautiful singing from the likes of George Clavey, Joan Mackenzie, Archie MacLean and Margaret MacDonald. It has 17 tracks of great singing and music.
From the sleevenotes: "The word 'ceilidh' means more or less 'a social visit'..Nowadays, however, the word is used almost exclusively to describe an informal concert at which Gaelic, 'the language of Eden', is spoken and sung. Edinburgh has always had a fair share of the best expatriate Gaelic performers. On this recording you will hear the voices of no fewer than three gold medallists, artists who have won the supreme award at the annual Mod of An Comunn Gaidhealach. And all the performers in this Festival Ceilidh are in constant demand at ceilidhs all over the country as well as appearing on radio and television. The recording was made before an invited audience during the Edinburgh International Festival of 1962."

This CD has been produced from a record made over fifty years ago. There is an occasional wee crackle associated with the age of the original material, but we have tried to make the sound quality of the CD as clear and crisp as possible. We hope that you will agree with us that the quality of the beautiful singing still shines through.
