Harry Lauder - Roaming' in the Gloaming: Harry Lauder was one of the first international superstars in the world of entertainment, and was the highest-paid performer in the glory days of the music hall. In 1999 the trade publication 'Variety' named him as one of the 100 top stars of the 20th century. A fine performer with a gleeful sense of humour, Harry Lauder was also a brilliant songwriter and such gems as the title track "Roaming' in the Gloaming'" and the lovely "I Love A Lassie" have stood the test of time and are known by Scots the world over. He had a wonderfully rich singing voice and the musicians on his recordings were always top notch. His "Keep Right On To The End Of The Road' still has all the poignancy of his struggle with grief after the loss of his only son in the Great War and almost a century on is still a truly great song.
This CD has been produced from a record made over fifty years ago. There is an occasional wee crackle associated with the age of the original material, but we have tried to make the sound quality of the CD as clear and crisp as possible. We hope that you will agree with us that the quality of the beautiful singing still shines through.
