The Glasgow Orpheus Choir (Vol 2): For fifty years, three generations of choral excellence the Glasgow Orpheus Choir, under its conductor Sir Hugh Roberton, brought real music to millions of people throughout the world. They gave their final performance in Glasgow at St. Andrew's Hall on 11th April 1951. This CD of Scotland's best-loved choir was made from an original early1950s recording. The album starts off with an exquisite rendition of the old Scots psalm tune 'Crimond' (The Lord is My Shepherd) and there are other beautiful arrangements of such notable pieces as 'Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring' and the lovely 'All in the April Evening'. Listening to this CD it is easy to understand why the Glasgow Orpheus made such an impression on all who were fortunate enough to hear this great choir. There may be a few slight imperfections associated with the age of the original material, but we have tried to make the sound quality of the CD as clear and crisp as possible. We hope that you will agree with us that the quality of the music still shines through.
