Folk Song Today: Songs and Ballads of England and Scotland Collected by Peter Kennedy (working with the BBC i co-operation with The English Folk Dance and Song Society and the School of Scottish Studies. This interesting CD featuring the folk singers of the era was made from an original 1957 recording. It includes contributions from Rory and Alex McEwan, John Macdonald, Jean Robertson, Davie Stewart, Frank McPeake, Shirley Collins and Bob Roberts. The recordings show a great diversity of dialect, vocal style and instrumental accompaniment, and the singers have one thing in common, an inherited tradition of living folk song and balladry. There may be a few slight imperfections associated with the age of the original material, but we have tried to make the sound quality of the CD as clear and crisp as possible. We hope that you will agree with us that the quality of the music still shines through.
